The under 14’s Tigers entertained Consett Bears in another top of the table clash. The Tigers looked focused and keen to avenge the 3-1 loss under the floodlights at Consett the week before Christmas.
NSG came out of the blocks extremely quickly looking very comfortable on the ball and closing down a very big Consett team quickly when we lost possession. Some of the football being played by NSG Tigers was scintillating, quick sharpe passing with 3rd player runs. Fantastic free flowing football and a joy to watch. Consett did well to keep us at bay for 20 mins, but our midfield 3 of Jack T, Mackers & the massively impressive Marcus continued to dominate. The breakthrough came following a free kick, delivered into the box by Charlie, Matty pounced and scrambled the ball over the line. A well deserved NSG lead, 1-0.
NSG continued to dominate possession, passing the ball excellently, dictated by Marcus in the middle of the park. We also did the ugly stuff really well, working hard to win the ball back quickly. Mackers and Jack T superb in the engine room.
Our 2nd came via a thunderbolt from Jack P striking the ball into the top corner from the edge of the area. A deserved 2-0 lead. Shane did well to make a good save with the last kick off the ball in the 1st half. Tremendous 1st half performance.
Knowing that Consett would try to fly out of the blocks in the 2nd half, NSG continued to battle hard winning the 2nd balls. With the game in the balance and some strong tackles flying about, the ref gave us a free kick 30 + yards out, Charlie stood over the ball, striking it hard it moved from right to left in the air, the Consett GK did well to keep it out however Jack P followed up to finished well from close range. 3-0 NSG. Consett didn’t give up and continued to fight, they had an excellent chance which was expertly dealt with by Shane. However, Consett scored from the following corner. 3-1 with 15 mins to go.
We managed to get back control of the midfield, Jack T with boundless energy got on the end of a great footballing move to finish well from the 6 yard box. 4-1.
We very nearly made it 5 with our last attack, today’s captain Matty hitting the post from long range.
The first half performance was the best I’ve seen from the lads in the 3 years I’ve coached them. Fantastic!! Many star men today, but for his dominate display in central midfield goes MOM goes to Marcus. Well done lads! 4 more games to win and the tittle will be ours!!
