Cobras v Consett Sharks – Match Report

Sunderlands answer to Val D’Isere …Silksworth was the venue for NSG u9’s Cobras first match of the Spring League in Division 3 after their winter league promotion. Their opponents were an unknown Consett Sharks who turned out to be a tricky little side with a killer bite.

NSG’s starting line up of Will, James, Lewis H, Archie, Finn, Zack and Lewis M kicked off and certainly did not seem worried about their opponents. NSG made a strong start with a few cheeky attacks to test the very strong CS keeper. CS looked useful on the break but a fantastic first 10 minutes from Left back Lewis H, sporting some bobby dazzler new boots , kept them at bay. CS seemed to step up a gear and NSG were under a great deal of pressure but held firm with some resolute defending from James and Lewis H. Zack and Archie were making some good chances and the best shot of the half was stopped by the CS keeper again. Finn and Jack were causing a few issues in and around the box and both had good efforts go just wide. Will , in between the sticks was having a blinder , saving NSG’s skin on a number of occasions.

Coach Pete “ 2.5 Tog socks “ Beaumont brought on Harry, Jake, Evan and Jack and NSG continued to press with a series of corners and free kicks but just could not capitalise. Half time came 0 – 0.

The 2nd half kicked off and NSG came agonisingly close but this near joy suddenly turned into a quick break for CS and cross in smashed off Finn and past a stranded Will 1 – 0 CS. Evan and Harry were putting in a few of their legendary wild tackles to break up the midfield and a quick darting run from Archie, unselfishly laid off , resulted in Jack tapping it over the line 1 – 1 .

CS kept pressing and with Lewis M having a few chances saved the NSG parents were looking to hold on for a draw. However CS had the last say with a speculative long shot hitting both posts before trickling in …2 -1 CS. With full time looming CS sent in a high corner which was met with a strong header to make it 3 -1 .

Full time came 3-1 Consett Sharks. Some great individual performances from Will and Lewis H..with Lewis H picking up Man of The Match…well done !! Although a loss , some positives to take out of the match .

Well done lads..onwards and upwards…great parent / grandparent turnout yet again #NSGCobras
